A heating service company can diagnose and repair issues that crop up with your central heating, space heater, furnace or water heater. But if you've never contracted with one of these companies, you may not know the most common services that they provide, so to help you out, here are some of the things they can handle on your behalf.
Water Heater Services -- Your water heater regulates the flow of hot water in your bathroom and kitchen, and it also generates the heat for your washing machine and dishwasher. Most water heaters carry at least a 10-year warranty that covers many issues that crop up in the regular operation of the appliance. Heating service company technicians are able to analyse and inspect your water heater when common problems such as a lack of hot water occur. One of the main reasons that a water heater stops warming water is that the heating element inside the tank has malfunctioned. Another common issue is a knocking sound inside the tank that is the result of hard deposits that have formed in the tank over a long period of time. A heating service technician may have to flush your entire tank to resolve this problem and install a new anode rod, a component that protects the inside of your tank from rust.
Furnace Services -- Furnaces tend to stop working when you need them most, which is usually during the winter. Dirty filters are one of the most common issues with a furnace, but other issues that a heating technician can fix include bearings that are worn out, pilot lights that won't ignite or won't stay lit, a malfunctioning thermostat, which controls the level of heat in your home, and a compromised fault limit switch that regulates the blower function.
Inspection/Maintenance/Tune-Up -- To keep your water heater and furnace at peak efficiency, a heating service technician can perform an annual inspection to determine if there are any potential issues that should be handled before they become major repairs. For example, heating service technicians will often test the carbon monoxide levels and natural gas level in your home to ensure there are no toxic gases flowing from your heater or furnace because of a leak. They can also inspect your exhaust system to ensure proper ventilation, and they can recommend and install insulation on your water heater pipes to make the heating process more energy efficient.

I really want a cool old fixie like some of the people at my university have, but they are actually more expensive than I had first thought. Then I was going through the shed at home, and I found a really old rusted bike my dad used to use. The bike needed a lot of work, so it's been a project for the last few months to get it working properly and get it looking great again. This blog has all of the repair and restoration steps that I have used, and pictures of my progress as the project progressed.
