The Surprising Things Lurking in Your Carpet

Blog

As a homeowner, you probably don't think about your carpet very often. You might not even think about it until it's time to clean it.

But what you may not know is that your carpet can be a breeding ground for dirt and bacteria. In fact, there may be many surprising things lurking on your carpet! Keep reading to learn more.

Dust Mites

Dust mites are tiny creatures that thrive in warm, humid environments. They feed on dead skin cells and are often found in mattresses, upholstered furniture, and, you guessed it, carpets!

While dust mites aren't dangerous, they can trigger allergies and asthma attacks. Dust mites produce waste products that contain a protein that can trigger an allergic reaction in some people.

If you think you might be allergic to dust mites, see a doctor. In the meantime, there are some things you can do to reduce the number of dust mites in your home. Vacuum regularly with a specially treated filter to remove as many dust mites as possible.

You can also treat your carpet with an allergen-reducing spray or powder. Finally, keep your home well-ventilated and free of excess moisture, as this will create an environment inhospitable for dust mites.

Pet Hair

If you have a pet, chances are you've also got pet hair on your carpet. While regular vacuuming can help remove some of the hair, it's often not enough to completely get rid of it.

Fortunately, you can do a few things to help reduce the amount of pet hair on your carpet. First, make sure that your pet is well-groomed. Brushing or combing them regularly will help remove loose hair before it has a chance to fall into the carpet.

You can also try using a dust mop or lint roller to collect hair from the carpet's surface. Finally, if you have any shedding problem areas, such as around the edges of the room or near doorways, consider placing a mat or rug down to catch any stray hairs.

You can keep your carpets clean and free of pet hair with a little effort.

Mould and Mildew

Carpets are an essential part of any home, providing comfort and style. However, carpets can also be prone to mould and mildew growth, especially in humid or damp environments.

Luckily, you can take a few simple steps to get rid of mould and mildew from your carpet. You can work with experienced carpet cleaners who can assess the extent of the problem. They can develop a plan to get rid of the mould or mildew safely and effectively.

In most cases, they will use special solutions and high-powered equipment to remove mould and mildew from your carpet. This step helps improve the appearance of your home and ensures that your family is safe from harmful toxins.

Repairing my dad's old fixie

I really want a cool old fixie like some of the people at my university have, but they are actually more expensive than I had first thought. Then I was going through the shed at home, and I found a really old rusted bike my dad used to use. The bike needed a lot of work, so it's been a project for the last few months to get it working properly and get it looking great again. This blog has all of the repair and restoration steps that I have used, and pictures of my progress as the project progressed.
